Valedictory function of Online Certificate Course on “Gene Editing Tools in Medicine & Biotechnology”
As a part of the academic collaboration with the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics and Department of Biology, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the Department of Biosciences offered an “Online Certificate Course on “Gene Editing Tools in Medicine & Biotechnology” under the mentorship of Dr. N. Bharathan, Chair & Professor, Biology Department for the Post Graduate students, Faculty and Research Scholars of Biosciences, Botany & Zoology Departments of Union Christian College and a limited number of outside students and faculty.
The virtual classes were held from October 2021 to February 2022. Dr. N. Bharathan, Chair, Biology (IUP) took classes for 3 hours every Saturday & Sunday through Zoom platform. Classroom lectures included types of gene editing tools, principles of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and its application in agriculture, vector-borne diseases, viruses, drug therapeutics, drug development, and cancer immunotherapy. As per the teaching model two exams, written assignments and discussion forums were conducted to assess the knowledge gained by each participant and the course was concluded during February 2022. Dr. Susan Eapen served as the Program Advisor and Dr. Sareen Sarah John, was the Course Co-ordinator of the program. After successful completion of the course, Students were awarded a Certificate jointly signed by Faculty Instructor from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) USA and Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala. The valedictory function of the Program was conducted on March 7th 2022 at T.B Ninan Hall.
